Author Posts Funny Situations That A Modern Muggle-Born Would Experience At Hogwarts

You would have to live in a completely different universe to not be aware of the Harry Potter phenomenon. Even if you weren’t one of those diehard fans who anticipated every book release, saving up pennies or making your birthday wishes very apparent to your parents, you still have either witnessed the hype or at least watched the movies, right? But the recent years could be regarded as a great proof that the Harry Potter series wasn’t just a crazy fad that died out once the movies were done. With new Fantastic Beasts movies still rolling out and attracting crowds to the theaters, Potterheads big and small still remind the world that they exist. And as magical memes still land, …

Incredible Images Reveal Wreck Of Famous US Aircraft Carrier Discovered In The Pacific

The USS Hornet holds a near-legendary status in US Naval history. The colossal aircraft carrier stalked the Pacific in World War 2 and launched one of the first air raids of the Japanese homeland, including Tokyo. After laying on the murky seabed for over 75 years, the shipwreck of USS Hornet (CV-8) was discovered in January by the research vessel Petrel and an onboard robotic sub at a depth of 5,200 meters (17,000 feet) off the Solomon Islands. Its location was hunted down using sonar technology and naval archives that detailed deck logs and action report from the nine US warships. The project was funded by Vulcan Inc, a philanthropic firm started by the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, which …

What’s the weather on Mars? InSight can tell you every day

(CNN)If daily weather forecasts for your part of the world weren’t enough, now you can get the weather report from Mars, thanks to NASA’s InSight stationary lander. Beginning Tuesday, InSight will provide a daily weather report everyone can see. InSight has something that other missions to the Martian surface didn’t. The sensors, called the Auxiliary Payload Subsystem, can provide weather information around the clock, recording data each second of the day and sending it back to Earth. The sensors are actually spares that were refurbished when building the Curiosity rover. They’re 10 times more sensitive than the ones used on the Viking and Pathfinder landers. Inside the lander is an air pressure sensor, and the deck carries two wind and …

Dont Get Under The Table: Teacher Shares Tips On Staying Alive If An Active Shooter Is Nearby

Americans of an earlier generation will probably remember the ‘duck and cover’ type of safety drills at school, a somewhat optimistic protection measure in the event of an atomic explosion. While the threat of nuclear annihilation has subsided somewhat, many residents of the ‘land of the free’ still live with a nagging undercurrent of fear, highlighted by this Twitter thread by “V” ( “I received active shooter training at work today that I feel will save my life in the unfortunate (and likely) event that someone will open fire in public so I’m gonna share my takeaways. Some stuff is obvious, the rest might not be,” she wrote. lareinavicc After being taken to task for her “and likely” comment, she …

This man devised a formula for finding love, and followed it

This is someone you’re going to see virtually every day for the rest of your life; if you have kids, you’ll almost certainly have them with this person; you’ll share a bed, holidays, money, a home – pretty much everything, in fact. Wouldn’t it make sense to take a more rational approach? The statistics certainly suggest lots of us are getting it wrong: 42% of marriages in England and Wales are thought to end in divorce. In the US, the estimated figure is even higher: about half all married couples divorce. That’s why Ed Conard decided he needed to “optimise” his search for a spouse when he wanted to get married 20 years ago. Mr Conard is an uber-capitalist. He …

Italian Man Buys A DNA Test, Finds Out He And His Father Are Not Italians At All

The companies providing these tests invested millions of dollars into advertising to stimulate our curiosity. For instance, according to Kantar Media, in 2016 Ancestry.com spent $109 million on TV and other ads in the US. And it worked well, the genetic testing industry had 12 million consumers in 2017 alone. Earlier we wrote an article about how one of this …

UK inflation falls to two-year low

Why are prices falling? Mike Hardie, ONS head of inflation, said: “The fall in inflation is due mainly to cheaper gas, electricity and petrol, partly offset by rising ferry ticket prices and air fares falling more slowly than this time last year.” Ofgem’s energy price cap, which came into effect from 1 January 2019, helped drive down inflation, the ONS said. However, that cap is being raised and this is likely to feed into future CPI figures. Price of flats fell in England last year The ONS said that petrol prices were also down by 2.1% per litre between December 2018 and January 2019 due to falling crude oil prices. Hotel and restaurant prices were also lower while prices of …
